Calming sushi roll

Does your little one need a little extra help calming down? Try this calming sushi roll game!

By playfully wrapping your child in a blanket and treating them like a sushi roll, you can create a comforting and engaging atmosphere that encourages connection and laughter.

As you roll them up snugly, you can add a sprinkle of fun by pretending to chop them up and adding silly ingredients like “rainbow sprinkles" or "gravy-dipped strawberries".

This light-hearted approach not only helps your child feel safe and secure but also promotes emotional regulation in a fun and imaginative way. It’s a fantastic way to bond while helping them find their calm!

  • Step 1:

Gather a soft blanket and invite your child to lay down on it.

  • Step 2:

Wrap them up snugly like a sushi roll, gently tucking the edges in.

  • Step 3:

Pretend to chop them up playfully and add ingredients, like “avocado”, "rainbow sprinkles" or even sillier ones like "gravy-dipped strawberries", using your hands or soft toys.

  • Step 4:

Encourage laughter and connection while discussing the “ingredients” you’re adding.

Extend

  • Wrap the Grown-Up: Encourage your child to return the favour by wrapping you up in the blanket as a “sushi chef,” allowing them to take the lead and have fun with the roles.

  • Sushi Roll Countdown: Incorporate a countdown while you roll them up, making it a fun game where they can anticipate being “unrolled” at the end, creating excitement.

  • Silly Sushi Song: Create a silly sushi song together while you roll and wrap. You can make up lyrics about being a sushi roll and the funny ingredients you're adding.
