There’s something deeply satisfying about folding paper into a perfect little heart. The precision, rhythm, and focus required can feel like a moving meditation - giving your mind a rest from the chaos of the day.

Sometimes, having an expected outcome is just what our nervous system needs; it’s the same comfort as when a recipe turns out exactly as the picture.

All you need is a square piece of paper and a few folds to create a symbol of care and presence. You can decorate your paper beforehand, use it as a card, or string a few together for festive decoration.

Here are the detailed instructions (refer to video below too):

Step 1: Fold the square in half diagonally both ways, forming an “X” crease.

Step 2: Fold the top corner down to the centre.

Step 3: Fold the bottom corner up to meet that fold.

Step 4: From the centre bottom, fold the edges upward so they meet the middle, forming the heart’s shape.

Step 5: Adjust the small top corners inward to round the heart’s edges if desired.
