You don’t need to be “good at drawing” to enjoy Zen Doodling! All you need is a piece of paper and something to draw with.
Start with a simple shape, line, dot, or pattern and slowly repeat it across the page. Add circles inside circles, wavy lines, spirals, little leaves, dots, arches, or whatever your hand feels like making. There’s no right way to do it and no finished picture you need to aim for.
The repetitive movement can help shift your attention away from busy thoughts and towards the present moment. It’s a lovely little creative pause, especially at the end of a long day, and a gentle way to wind down without reaching for a screen.
Do this as a solo exercise or together with your favourite mini or big person - there’s something lovely about sitting together, quietly drawing, without needing to produce anything “perfect”. Just doodle, breathe, and see where the page takes you.
Find a comfortable spot where you can sit and draw for a few minutes.
Grab some paper and your favourite drawing tool.
Put on some calming music if you'd like.
Start with a simple shape, line, dot, or pattern.
Slowly repeat it across the page or create outlines around it, letting the pattern grow naturally.
Add new shapes or patterns whenever you feel like changing direction.
Notice the movement of your hand, the marks appearing on the page, and how you feel as you draw.
Keep going for as long as it feels enjoyable. There’s no need to finish or create a particular picture.
